CDL is one of the UK’s leading insurance software houses, employing over 600 people at its campus in Stockport. It has a strong track record in the high volume retail insurance sector, with clients including Ageas Retail, Swinton Insurance, Tesco Bank, iGO4 and John Lewis, to name a few. CDL has spearheaded developments in the aggregator, web and telematics space, including connected home, enrichment and self-service solutions. As a result, the company’s robust and innovative technologies have enabled its customers to thrive in the highly competitive UK insurance marketplace.
At CDL, we have built a collaborative and creative culture where we employ agile techniques to deliver our pace-setting applications. We like to work in small, focused groups so you are always learning from people around you and you feel a part of the success of each project you are involved with. If the chance to work across a wide range of databases challenges excites you, we have some amazing opportunities waiting for you to explore.
What you will do
If you eat, sleep and breathe databases, or you are just incredibly good at looking after them, then this is the role for you! Monitoring and supporting test and live databases, you will provide guidance to customers and colleagues, trouble-shoot any issues and identify areas for improvement. Automation is a key part of what we do; you will automate processes using a number of technologies including Terraform. You will initially be providing production and development support for Oracle Databases but the role will quickly expand to cover Postgres. We are consequently looking for a highly skilled all-rounder who is as confident advising the development teams on maximising investment in database technologies as they are working on auditing, archiving, backup and recovery, performance and troubleshooting issues.
This wide-reaching role brings a world of opportunity, so to knock our socks off you will need at least eight years of DBA experience working in a Linux/Unix-based production and development environment. Ideally a qualified Oracle Database Certified Professional (11g/12c) with experience of the following: OEM, RAC, Oracle Dataguard/DB Visit, AWS, Postgres, Patroni, Barman and NetApp. Feel like putting your competition in the shade? Then tell us about your experience of automating repetitive tasks (preferably using Shell Script, SQL and PL*SQL or other languages) and your expertise in Puppet and RunDeck...we are all ears. Demonstrable experience with Amazon Web Services is highly desirable, all we ask is an attitude to learn new technologies, and we will fully support you with training to do so.
